statement

Through fine art practice I reflect a personal interest in relations formed between cultures and global locations. Changes in environments and situations are my constant investigations. The concept of worship, faith and idealisation, along with how humanity finds hope and security is core to my practice. Balanced forms like the sun, globe and halo are integral factors in the conceptual and physical make up of my work. The relation between these natural forms and our society’s concept of the female and feminine is also explored in my practice.

The fact that humanity is unified by the globe on which it exists and variations of symbols of infinity derived from the sun are the enduring theory behind my work and, indeed, my own existence.
Whilst developing as an artist I have experimented with a wide range of media and materials. My resolve is to challenge the boundaries seen, by some, to be held between traditional 2D and 3D art forms. By this I mean to paint and install works into three dimensional spaces so that the structures can be appreciated from multiple vantage points giving them greater diversity and interest to the viewer.
The colour use of Twombly and Hume has been core to my personal development in painting. All artists I have seen with a courageous and bold use of colour have inspired me not to be shy or timid when making my choices in both the composition and application of paints.

Artists that explore the subconscious such as Kapoor have encouraged my contemplation of the human psyche in a time that art sometimes seems to rely more on shock factor than substance. His success has encouraged my perseverance to be true to what is important to me as I go forward with my practice.
