The Olde Nishidai Route
 | Brendon's first show in Japan revolved around different aspects of travel. She had spent the previous two years on the road and had both positive and negative aspects of her journey to document.
'The Old Nishidai Route' was both the name of the show or party and the focal piece of work. Camilla was keen to demonstrate how travel comes with an aspect of repetition and indeed boredom. In this case she looked at a simple commute on the overcrowded Tokyo metro system. How could one bear a life time of sweaty over packed carriages buzzing with head phones and the latest in gaming technology? In a society where the norm is the only way even to be seen doodeling on a train turned heads. So, she doodled every day one drawing per station. She was her own therapist in the crowd. This was also her way to continue producing art in a compact city that so far had not allowed her space to produce here typical large scale paintings.
To balance this sobering reflection of the struggle to survive in Tokyo she wished to show the joy of discovering the world with no deadline. She did this in the 'I love Wednesday's @ McCluskies' piece. As the guests enjoyed the party they could find photos of the artist wearing her t-shirt as she traveled on the first 9 month leg of her journey. The photos were numbered and corresponded to a world map that hung on the wall.
Camilla made the show a casual party to embrace the Japanese custom of welcoming guests and relaxing in the precious moments that aren't spent working.
